Wang Ailan, hometown is Beijing, originally named Wang Wuxian, nationality is Manchu. She graduated from Japan Waseda University in 1944. During her school time abroad, she once learned from well-known Japanese artists, such as Yokoyama Taikan, Xiao Bao Cuiyun, Kawai Yutang, Araki Shimu etc. She used to serve as professor of Japanese Arts Schools and secretary of China Embassy in Japan. After 1946, she concentrated on studying painting. In 1947, she held art exhibition in Beihai Yi-Lan Hall and in 1951, she participated in Beijing "New Chinese Painting Research Association". She once studied human body painting, still life painting in Beijing Arts Collenge and Beijing Normal University College, then served as primary school teacher. In 1979, she transferred to Beijing Painting Academy. The landscapes and flowers paintings in her early years used traditional painting techniques to create, and in her later years, she did not often use raw papers to paint flowers. She painted plum solemnly and quietly, bamboo densely and steadily, orchis calmly and chicly. Her overall style was smoothy, light, quiet, graceful. He paid attention to combine poetry, calligraphy into painting. Her calligraphy style took the way of "Quote Study", fresh and beautiful.
