Was born Hui Ming county of Shan Dong province in 1912. Settled down in Beijing in 1917; joined Chinese Painting Institute in 1936; 1930-1948, held personal exhibitions in Beijing and Tian Jin; in1953, created painting ; 1956, joined Chinese Artists Association; in 1957, Beijing Chinese Painting Institute; in 1962, was employed as part-time professor by Central Theatre Academy, and taught at Beijing Normal University and other universities. Drew lots of well-known giant paintings for People Hall, Zhong Nanhai, Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, Ti An Men, Beijing City Municipality, Capital Library, and Beijing Hotel. Published < Landscape Anthology >、< Flower and Bird Painting Menu > and so on.      Guo Chuanzhang was apprenticed to Qi Jinxi and Li He and so on, learning ,landscape, flower and bird painting, studying in paintings skills and theories of Song ,Yuan, Ming, Qing Dynasty painters. Became a master after long term practicing; dare to innovate, found his unique artistic language. He created a large number of modern landscape works and has his own artistic style.
