His given name is Rong, style name is Shensheng, nickname is Man Chuan Cun Ren and hometown is Shexian County of Anhui province. He used to be an apprentice in Lanxi County of Zhejiang province and then lived by selling charcoal paintings in Shanghai.He arrived in Beijing in early 1930s, worked as professor of the private school of Jinghua Arts Colleges and art department of Fu Jen University. After the liberation, he served as deputy researcher of the National Institute of Fine Arts, artist and committee member of Beijing Art Academy. Wang Shensheng was good at painting flowers and birds, landscapes, and famous for flowers and birds paintings. He could not only use the method of Gongbi (traditional Chinese realistic painting) but also Xieyi (freehand brushwork in traditional Chinese painting , characterized by vivid expression and bold outline), and was good at Xieyi. His painting style was simple and implicit. His "Tomato Harvest", painted in early years after liberation, showed his great ability to paint realistically and was considered as the example of expressing innovation with traditional method. Zhang Yi, Sun Qifeng,etc. are his students.
