Major Events at BFAA from 1967 to 19852013-08-19
In 1967

Qi Baishi’s painting and calligraphy and other painters’ works were stored by the Reference Room of BFAA into strongboxes, which were escorted and carried to the underground storehouse of the National Art Museum of China for keeping. 


In 1968 

In August, BFAA accepted a task from upper authority and organized painters at BFAA such as Wei Jiangfan, Wang Wenfang, Wu Xiu, Zhao Zhitian, Zhou Sicong, and Ma Quan, and senior painter Wu Guangyu to create a historical painting for the Dingling Tomb of Beijing Ming Tombs. 

In October, BFAA organized senior painters at BFAA including Guan Songfang, Yan Di, Zhou Huaimin, Zhou Yuanliang, Qin Zhongwen and Fu Songchuang to create large-scale traditional Chinese paintings like Huangyangjie of Jinggang Mountain and Liupanshan Mountain, etc. for the Chinese Embassy in Somalia. 

In November, Cui Zifan and Ma Quan went to Nanjing Fine Art Academy to investigate the creation of traditional Chinese painting, model Beijing opera and picture-story books, so as to learn from their advanced experience. 


In 1969 

In March, BFAA held a “Heralding Spring Painting Exhibition” at the Cloud-Dispelling Hall (Pai Yun Dian) of Summer Palace. 

In April, Zhou Sicong and Ma Quan created four pieces of “Serial Paintings of the Long March”, and participated in “Beijing Fine Art Exhibition”. 


In 1971 

The political commissar of the Mao Zedong Thought propaganda team led some of the artists to study and engage in academic exchanges at Nanjing Fine Art Academy and Shanghai Oil Painting and Sculpture Studio. 


In 1972 

From June to September, at the invitation of the People’s Fine Arts Publishing House, Zhang Renzhi, Wang Peidong and Zhao Zhitian went to Daqing and stayed there for four months, they collectively created four screens of Spring Festival pictures—The Daqing Spirit & Daqing People (local painters Yu Meicheng and Wang Dawei also participated in the creation), this artwork entered the national exhibition of Spring Festival pictures and picture-story books, and was published by Beijing People’s Fine Arts Publishing House. 

In August, Wang Qingsheng and Tian Yong created several paintings for the International Club of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 


In 1977 

In February, BFAA held a “Twin-Festival Art Exhibition”. Altogether 91 pieces of traditional Chinese paintings, oil paintings, engravings, cartoons, gouache paintings and charcoal drawings were on display. 


In 1978 

On January 8, Wang Weizhen’s works Mao Zedong and Li Siguang and Premier Zhou and Li Siguan were distributed by Xinhua News Agency to all national newspapers and simultaneously published by various newspapers nationwide. 

March 14 to April 14, “Exhibition of Practice Works of BFAA” was held at Ritan Park. 

November 11 to December 11, BFAA held an exhibition of the posthumous works by the deceased artists of BFAA at Puan Hall of Beihai Park. 


In 1979 

In January, the new leadership team of BFAA was established. 

January 26 to February 24, BFAA and the organizing committee of Chinese Artists Association, Beijing Branch co-hosted the “Dawn of Spring Art Exhibition” at Huafangzhai of Beihai Park. 

On July 12, BFAA presented 40 pieces of traditional Chinese painting and oil painting to the Overseas Chinese Association in Tokyo, Japan. 

On October 10, BFAA presented 73 pieces of modern Chinese painting to the Overseas Chinese Association in Tokyo, Japan. 

In October, BFAA set up the Mural Research Office. 


In 1980 

February 14 to March 2, BFAA held the “Dawn of Spring Art Exhibition” at Puan Hall of Beihai Park. 88 pieces of top-quality traditional Chinese Paintings were exhibited. 

In June, under the leadership of Beijing Municipal Committee, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and BFAA, Liu Xun, Vice-president of BFAA directly presided over the resumption of publication of Traditional Chinese Painting (quarterly), and Pan Jiezi acted as chief editor. 

September 3 to 19, BFAA and Chinese Painting Institute of Shanghai held the “Joint Exhibition of Traditional Chinese Painting by CPIS and BFAA” at the National Art Museum of China. On September 9, a symposium was held at BFAA (No. 15 Shajing Hutong, Luogu Alley, Di’anmen). 

From October 1 to 15, and from November 12 to 27, the joint art exhibition by BFAA and Chinese Painting Institute of Jiangsu was held at the Art Museum of Jiangsu (Nanjing) and at the National Art Museum of China (Beijing) respectively. 


In 1981 

August 28 to September 13, at the invitation of the Chinese Cultural Center in Vancouver, Canada, BFAA held the “Exhibition of Top-quality Paintings by BFAA”. 

In August, BFAA invited 16 people as “honorary guest painters” including Wu Zuoren, Li Keran, Ki Kuchan, Jiang Zhaohe, Ye Qianyu, Huang Yongyu, Wu Guanzhong, Bai Xueshi, Tian Shiguang, Cui Zifan, Yu Zhizhen, Zhang Ding, Liu Lingchuang, Zhao Fengchuan, Huang Zhou, and Dong Shouping. 

November 20 to January 20, 1982, “Traditional Chinese Paintings Exhibition by BFAA” was held at Shenzhen Exhibition Center. Altogether 100 pieces of works were exhibited. 


In 1982 

February 1 to 15, BFAA, Chinese Artists Association Guangdong Brach and Guangzhou Cultural Park together held the “Traditional Chinese Paintings Exhibition by BFAA” at Guangzhou Cultural Park. 

On February 24, BFAA and Chinese Artists Association Guangxi Branch co-hosted the “Traditional Chinese Paintings Exhibition by BFAA” at the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Museum. 

On March 10, the editorial department of Traditional Chinese Painting held the “Symposium Commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Death of Qi Baishi”, chaired by Pan Jiezi. 

On April 5, the Ministry of Culture organized a grave ceremony for Qi Baishi to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his death. 

On May 14, BFAA held “The 25th Anniversary of the Founding of BFAA”. 

June 19 to July 4, “The 25th Anniversary of the Founding of BFAA Exhibition” was held at the National Art Museum of China, altogether 189 pieces of works were exhibited. 

September 8 to 18, in order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the normalization of Sino-Japan diplomatic relations, “Joint Exhibition by Beijing Fine Art Academy of China and Nanga Fine Art Academy of Japan” was held at the National Art Museum of China. 


In 1983 

February 13 to 27, “Traditional Chinese Paintings Exhibition by BFAA” was held at Fujian Provincial Art Museum in Fuzhou. 

March 21 to April 4, “Traditional Chinese Paintings Exhibition by BFAA” opened at the exhibition hall of Jiangxi Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles. 

October 13 to 21, the Oil Paintings Exhibition by BFAA was held at the Daimaru Department in Nagasaki, Japan. 


In 1984 

In February, “Tour Exhibition of Traditional Chinese Paintings by BFAA” was held in Fuzhou City and Jiangxi Province. 

In March, at the invitation of Mr. Iri Maruki and his wife, Zhou Sicong went to Japan to hold a painting exhibition at the Ueno Art Museum in Tokyo. 


In 1985 

On April 14, BFAA held the “New Works Exhibition by BFAA” at the National Art Museum of China, in the same year “Asia-Pacific Expo—New Works Exhibition by BFAA” was held at Beijing International Exhibition Center. 

In April, “Works Exhibition of 20 U.S. Painters” was held at the gallery of BFAA.
