Brief introduction of Zhang Tongyu:

Born in 1965 Jilin Province, 1990 graduated as bachelor from Chinese Painting dept. of Northeast Normal University, graduated as master from China Arts Institute and worked as a journalist at Art Observation. 2004 studied on mountain and water painting theory at China Art Institute as doctor. After graduated, Mr.Zhang worked at Nation Fine Art Academy, he is a researcher of National Fine Art Academy, chief secretary and member of the Chinese Painting Association, member of China Artists Association etc. He had published books such as Chinese Calligraphers: Huang Binghong, 100 Artists who influenced Chinese Paintings’ Development etc.

Brief Introduction of the lecture:

Huang Binhong is a distinctive Chinese traditional landscape painting master, his art practice influenced deeply in the preceding of Chinese traditional landscape painting’s transform to modern form.

The lecture explained calligraphy’s important statue in Buang Binhong’s art career. Huang Binhong uses calligraphy manner in painting because his different understanding of this art form, he tries to conjoin calligraphy with painting and concluded Five Brush(笔) Seven Ink (墨) theory, he even invented new brush using techniques.

Huang not only find similarities between calligraphy and painting, he also made explores in Chinese painting and western painting’s overlapping area.

With time passed by, Huang Binhong is more and more important in Chinese painting’s history, what’s more, the understanding of Huang Binhong will be helpful for our understanding of the development and essence of Chinese Painting.
