         The exhibition Look but See Different----Exhibition of Lu Fusheng(卢甫圣) will meet audience at 23rd Jul. at Art Museum of Beijing Fine Art Academy and will last to 1st Apr. The exhibition is hosted by Beijing Fine Art Academy,Shanghai Chinese Fine Art Academy, Beijing Artists Association and Shanghai Artists Association.

 

         Painting’s value is not on the creation of Jing(景landscape, space) , but in the return of imagination

 

         Lu Fusheng(卢辅圣), his courtesy name is Fu Sheng(甫圣), born in 1949, Dongyang Zhejiang Province, president and chief editor of Shanghai Calligraphy and Painting Publisher , Chairman of Duoyun Xuan (朵云轩), vice President of Shanghai Artists Association, tutor of China Fine Arts Academy, College of Fine Arts of Shanghai University. He loves poetry and painting since his youth, he began art career during Culture Revolution and major in oil painting, after the resuming college entrance examination, Mr.Lu studied in Zhe Jiang Academy of Fine Arts and turned his focus on Chinese painting and Chinese Art History Research, published Haven and Man, Calligraphy Ecosystem, The History of Chinese Literati’s Painting etc.

 

         Paintings included in exhibition finished in recent years, these paintings explained Mr.Lu’s perception of Look but See Different , today’s paintings should focus on spirit and the way of communication rather than look, it should be guanzhao (关照,contemplation), a kind of spirit reflection activated by painting.

 

         Today, Chinese traditional painting, especially landscape painting had lose the function of leading the audience make spirit travel in these paintings, therefore, paintings today can only convey its spirit though part enlargement, and gain the spirit satisfaction which we missed in the city life. This kind of satisfaction does not realized by creation of space; on the contrary, it is realized by the escape of space.

 

         Our imagination today relies on the symbols, elements and even other’s thinking logics. The value of painting is to reveal things which should be seen but actually be ignored, should be seen but actually be ignored is people create the image in the mind though painting’s activate. In contrast, abundant of images make our ability of imagination becomes worse and worse. In another word, it is more and more difficult for people draw something they didn’t know, at the same time it is also hard to imagine something which don’t included by the information explosion. As a result, the more information, the imagination ability becomes worse.

 

          As a result, art not only provides visual experience, in another words, make a concrete landscape to fulfill the vision desire, in contract, because of a recognize of art history and a conscious of painting, Lu Fusheng’s paintings don’t incline to the pure abstract, but left some clues of Chinese painting spirit in the aspect of materials, language and style, all these will inspire our pursuit of spirit and these also conform with the essence of painting.

 

          Lu Fusheng’s paintings are about reconsider of origin of painting’s spirit, they construct a little world, they inspire us to gain a spirit satisfaction and imagination release on the base of forget the original visual experiences. This is the meaning of paintings are a kind of luxury which is said by Mr.Lu, the luxury can cultivate our imagination ability.

 

          In this sense, Mr.Lu’s paintings are not intend to make a space but are try to remove the space and Fanme(返魅) . Remove the space deconstruct the thoughts which confined by the symbols and images, and Fanmei is an inspiration of imagination.

         Painting is a kind of luxury, and this luxury can be enjoyed by everyone, not only to the artist himself but also the audience, painting compensate demiurge’s shortcoming by embodying things should be seen but be ignored in the simplest way.

 

         In our period, unprecedented culture production and consumption bring too much luxury, however less and less people can enjoy the luxury of painting. To painting, this maybe good as only keep far away from the noises, person who can really appreciate art will return the visual symbol to life and make them contend different emotions, desires and life experiences, and then they can bring art to the history chain which lead to contemporary and future.

 

         As one of who still enjoy the painting’s luxury, I cherish it. Before painting I just have the feeling of far away from the world, the history, time and space. I would like to share the luxury with the public, in this way the luxury will increase.
