The exhibition Calligraphy from Wang Niantang, Wang Mingminga and Wang Weiming, which is co-hosted by Beijing Artists Association, Beijing Fine Art Institution, will be opened from 3th. to 11th . April at Art Museum of Beijing Fine Art Institution. The distinguished exhibition included more than seventy calligraphies in different forms. These calligraphy are from a family: Wang Niantang is father, Wang Mingminga and Wang Weiming are his son, this make the exhibition very special. Besides, the exhibition explains to readers that: as an art form with two thousand years history, calligraphy is still the best from to convey Chinese classical literature, and it also arouse our reflection on the inherit of culture, art creation and even children education etc.
Wang Niantang experienced a lot in his early years, he love Chinese traditional art and literature when he was young. He moved from Penglai Shandong Province to Beijing when he was 15 years old, he had worked as a apprentice and the director of accountants. In 1948, Niantang moved to Beijing to be the director of a paper facture. During the Culture Revolution, Niantang was deposed and worked as a common worker, his family also experienced a lot of damage during the ten years. However, no matter how difficulty the life road is, Niantang neved dropped his art career. He uses his spare time, to practice calligraphy and make it as a joy in his life. Therefore, Niantang’s calligraphy is pure and far from “making profit”, his calligraphy is a mirror of his life. After 1980s, Niantang retired and eventually had a lot of time to practice calligraphy, although he is already ninety-six years old, he practice calligraphy everyday.
In Wang Niantang’s mind, children’s future is his largest achievement: Wang Mingming, Wang Lvxia and Wang Weiming are famous artist currently. Wang Niantang discovered their talent when they were young, and created a good learning and culture atmosphere for them. Wang Niantang is clear with that art education make personal character first and adhere tradition, and communicate with art master is very important. So he had lead his children to visit art masters and had make Wu Zuoren, Li Kuchan , Xu Zhiqian, Qi Gong as his children’s teachers.
Wang Mingming influenced deeply by his family education, and his teacher Li Kuchan,Wu Zuoren, Jiang Zhaohe, Lu Cheng, Zhou Sicong etc. Fortunately, he can make art as his career, besides painting, Wang Mingming also focus on calligraphy. Wang Mingming believes that paintings and calligraphy have the same origin, and calligraphy is the basis, so he pays great effort in calligraphy.
Wang Weiming is Wang Mingming’s little brother, his early art education is similar to Mingming. During culture revolution period, children can not painting, so they practice calligraphy a lot. One day Wang Weiming tried Li style and loved the calligraphy since then, during the beginning, calligraphy is a duty to Wang Weiming, but gradually, he find the inside beauty and calligraphy is no longer a task for him. When Wang Weiming joined the Calligraphy Association, he is the youngest member. Wang Weiming gave up his comfortable job and returned to CAFA and Kyoto University for further study, and graduate as a doctor in Chinese Painting and Buddhism Painting.
The family did great effort in spreading calligraphy in Japan, Singapore, South Korea etc., as the president of Beijing Fine Art Institution, under his leadership, Beijing Fine Art Institution made great achievement in spreading and inhering traditional cultural.
Reflection to tradition not means return to the past, These great treasure are our origin in development, revolution and self-confidence.
