The exhibition which held by China Artists Association, Beijing Artists Association and Beijing Art Institution, included more than sixty painting and calligraphies from Wu Jingting will be opened in 20th June to 16th July at Art Museum of Beijing Fine Art Institution, these paintings span from 1940s to 1970s. The exhibition has distinguished meanings: not only for the reediting of Wu Jingting’s paintings but also in memorial of the landscape painting master.
Wu Jingting is a representative master of Chinese mountain-and-water paintings; his experience reflects Beijing’s art development. There are two points in his art career: firstly, when he was young, he participated in the Chinese Art Research Association and Hu Association; secondly, the wave of painting outside happened during 1953-1960s, and the wave influenced Wu Jingting’s creation deeply.
Wu Jingting’s study started from Wang Shigu, he is a protégé of Jing Gongbei. However he didn’t cope Wang Shigu’s painting, he is analyzing Wang Shigu and absorb the artist’s essence of painting. Though the study of tradition, he laid himself a solid basis.
1918, Wu Jingting and his friend Qing Zhongwen participated Art Method Study Group in Beijing University. In this group, Wu Jingting had opportunity to contact different kinds of arts and art ideals. May 1920, Jin Chen and Zhou Zhaoxiang organized the Chinese Art Research Association, when he was 17 years old, both Wu Jingting and his younger brother participated the association and become two stars in young generation of Chinese painting. Wu Jingting good at Mountain- and- water painting, while his younger brother good at figure painting.
After 1950s , when Beijing Fine Art Institution founded, Wu Jingting entered the institution as a painter , his early paintings are excellent and appeared great art cultivation. Wu Jingting, Hu Peiheng, Qi Zhongwen had painted in Huang Mountain, Si Chuan Province etc.,1954, Wu Jingting and Li Keran, Zhang Ding painted in South of China, and in 1960s Wu Jingting participated Wu Baoshi’s group travelled more than 20 thousand miles, Wu Jingting pushed Chinese painting’s reform though landscape painting.
Though the juxtaposition of his sketches and his paintings, audience can find how the artist finished a painting; different periods of his paintings make us learn more about the artist’s career. He had finished his own responsibility as a herald in Chinese painting’s reform.
