It was the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China in 2019. Seventy years of endeavors and advancements against difficulties, have enabled the Chinese nationality to stand like a giant in the east of the world with a completely new posture. As the capital of the People’s Republic of China, Beijing does not only play the role of the center for politics, culture, international exchange as well as scientific and technological innovations in the country, and it also testifies to the glorious developments of our great motherland over 70 years.
From May 30th through to June 9th, jointly sponsored by Publicity Office of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, and jointly organized by the Beijing Artists Association and Beijing Fine Art Academy, “Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China—Brilliant Portrayals of Beijing Spanning 70 Years: Selected Painting Works” was held at the National Art Museum of China. With the theme of “Brilliant Portrayals of Beijing Spanning 70 Years”, the exhibition carefully selects 70 sets of paintings created by more than 70 painters since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It centers around four chapters: “Epochal Trends”, “Epochal Implications”, “Epochal People” and “Epochal Classics”. New works on the epoch and historical classics are presented together as a gift to the motherland.
Among them, the “Thirteen Tombs Reservoir”, “East Wind Blows Hundred Flowers”, and “Striving for a Good Agricultural Harvest” exhibited in the“Epochal Classics” section are large-size works collectively created by painters from Beijing Fine Art Academy. They have learned from others and brought forth something new, leaving valuable classic creations for Beijing in the epoch. It is worth mentioning that a 46-meter long scroll of Chinese painting entitled “Capital Spring” is also exhibited in this section. The front of this work is inscribed by Guo Moruo, which was created by 6 painters from Beijing Fine Art Academy in 1959 for the tenth anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. This is the first time for the work to be presented to the public in Beijing in all its features since entering the new century.
