Chinese Traditional Art in Beijing•20th century Beijing Chinese Art Circle
2012 is the 55 anniversary of Beijing Fine Art Academy’s establishment, on this occasion, Beijing Fine Art Academy will hold Chinese Traditional Art in Beijing•20th century Beijing Chinese Art Circle, the exhibition will be opened on 15th May, at Art Museum of Beijing Fine Art Academy, more than seventy paintings from 66 artists were included in the exhibition, and most important Beijing Chinese traditional artists are included, the exhibition can be seen as a epitome of 20th century Beijing Chinese painting.
Artists in 20th Century Beijing
In 20th century, Beijing Painting Group is as important as Shanghai Painting Group and Ling Nan Painting Group, Beijing Painting Group influenced Chinese art’s development with opening attitude and long art history. In early 20th century, because Antiques Display Institute and the Forbidden City was opened to the public, a lot of ancient paintings and antiques met the public and people had the opportunity to learn traditional essence. Meanwhile, as the origin of 4th May New Culture Movement, Beijing was also the center of different thoughts. The Chinese Painting Research Association and Hu Association which established in 20th century, with the aim of Research Traditional Painting Methods and Learn New Acknowledges, the two art research association got together a lot of artists and established an exchange platform, though the study of ancient paintings, these artists aimed to make Chinese traditional painting renaissance. Kang Youwei, Chen Duxiu, Cai Yuanpei and Xu Beihong had the same viewpoint on Chinese painting improvement, the debate between the two groups made the Chinese art circle stepped to various directions. During this century emerged artists like Jin Cheng, Chen Shizeng, Qi Baishi, Chen Banding, Pu Ru, Xu Beihong, Ye Gongchuo, Yu Fei’an, Ye Qianyu, Liu Lingcang, Li Keran, Li Kuchan, Wu Zuoren, Huang Zhou, Zhou Sicong etc., a lot of distinguish artists became important part of Beijing Fine Art Academy, the inhered the culture, just because of their hardworking, they had built solid foundation for future Chinese painting development.
The Epitome of the 20th Century Chinese Painting
Chinese Traditional Art in Beijing•20th century Beijing Chinese Art Circle tries to depicted Chinese painting circle in 20th century, though representative paintings and artists the exhibition showed Chinese painting development. After a hundred year, we can see artists’ endeavor in their own art exploration.
According to collection resource, Beijing Fine Art Academy chooses 66 representative artists’ to this exhibition, including Qi Baishi, Ye Gongchuo, Chen Banding, Jing Chen (who was the President of Chinese Painting Research Association), Zhou Zhaoxiang, Chen Shizeng, Xu Beihong, Jiang Zhaohe, Wu Zuoren. The Exhibition was divided into three parts: mountain-and-water painting, bird-and-flower painting and figure painting, though different styles and artists show Chinese painting’s development in the three directions.
Though documents about Chinese 20th century art’s history, including artists’ art career, art activities and photos the exhibition show art circle in the last century, it is not only a collection of distinguish Chinese paintings but also a research of that period, the exhibition provided an opportunity for audience better understanding Beijing Chinese Painting development.
