Glorious Sixty Years—the 60th Anniversary Exhibition of Beijing Fine Art Academy

    Beijing Fine Art Academy has been through 60 years from 1957 to 2017. An art feast— the 60th anniversary exhibition which named “Glorious Sixty Years of Beijing Fine Art Academy” will open to the public in May 14th in Art Museum of BFAA. The art works on this exhibition are all selected from BFAA’s collection which includes works from Song dynasty to modern art. Besides, this exhibition will display in documents to present the fruitful result that BFAA gained on “Creation”, ”Research”, “Education” and “Exhibition” in the past 60 years. In that day, a foundation stone laying ceremony of an expansion project of creation building and painting storage is going to be held as well, which will support BFAA more space to create, collect, educate and communicate internationally, and increase more possibility to BFAA’s development for the long future.
 
    The first floor of the art museum will mainly be the document exhibition and will be divided into four parts to illustrate, which are “Creation”, “Research”, “Exhibition” and “Education”. There will be a painting Flowers Bloom in the East Wind, which is a cooperative work created by Flower-and-bird Team of Beijing Fine Art Academy. This painting shows artists’ joy of BFAA’s establishment. The point of “Research” part is a huge bookshelf with more than 120 books on it, from Chinese Painting magazine to the recent research series. This bookshelf symbolizes the trace in research of BFAA. For “Exhibition” part, the network which is formed by invitation, exhibition manual and photos indicates the curating methods. For the last part “Education”, the point will be Ma Jin’s drawing for the first training class and the version imitated by his student Xue Yongnian, which represents the view when the artist was giving a lesson.
 
    BFAA has collected around 8,000 art works from Song dynasty to contemporary art. This anniversary exhibition will display more than 200 delicate works of the 8,000 works in the second to the fourth floors, which include painting, calligraphy, seal cutting and ancient books. A lot of famous artists’ works from different Chinese schools will be seen in this exhibition, such as Jin Cheng, Chen Shizeng, Yu Fei’an and Chen Banding from Beijing School; Ren Bonian and Wu Changshuo from Haishang School; Fu Baoshi and Song Wenzhi from New Jinling School; etc….What’s more, it is the first time to display a series of ancient painting to the public which were collected by BFAA, such as Playing Musical Instrument under a Pine by Anonymous from Song Dynasty and A Residence inside Cloudy Mountains by Gong Xian.
 
    In 1979, Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication published a series of stamps which all adopted Qi Baishi’s painting. BFAA has collected 9 of them (16 in total) and will display these 9 stamps on this exhibition. There will be some important donation works as well. Like serial pictures The Red Ribbon of Earth by Shen Yaoyi, Miners series by Zhou Sicong and Lu Chen, and two different versions of Mountains All in Red by Li Keran which is the first time to display these two versions together. It is an excellent chance for audience to see those beautiful works together.
 
    For celebrating the 60th anniversary of Beijing Fine Art Academy, a series of parallel exhibitions will be held in other places. For instance, the exhibition The World of Insect and Plant under Qi Baishi’s Paintbrush will be opened in May 25th in Art Museum of Jiangsu Province. This is the first time that Qi Baishi’s works from BFAA’s collection are displayed in Nanjing. During the middle of June, artists who are working in BFAA will held an exhibition in Kunming, Guilin and other cities to show their recent works.
