The exhibition Retrospective Exhibition of Song Wenzhi’s Painting will be opened from 13th to 26th Jun.2012, at Art Museum of Beijing Fine Art Academy. The exhibition which is hosted by China Artists Association, Beijing Artists Association, Jiang Su Province Artists Association, included about seventy paintings from Mr.Song Wenzhi and a lot of documents. The exhibition will present a comprehensive introduction of the artist; accompanying the exhibition the research book Song Wenzhi’s Painting will also meet the audience.

          Paintings Displayed in the Exhibition

          The paintings displayed in the exhibition are majorly Song Wenzhi’s water-and-mountain paintings which created during half a century. According by created year, the paintings are divided into four parts as Change of Mountain-and-Water, New Scenery of Lakes and Mountains, Spring in South China, Color Ink Painting. These paintings can show Song’s style changing form 1950s to 1990s, important paintings such as Change of Water-and-Mountain, Boats in the River will be displayed in the exhibition, the long scroll Taihu Lake (3.7m), The Hilsl Along Beihai and From Huang He Shan Qiao’s Bimo are highlight of the exhibition. Meanwhile, the exhibition also displayed Song’s bird-and-flower painting Squirrel, Golden Fish, these unusual themes make Song’s art very colorful. In a word, the exhibition will make a comprehensive introduction of Song’s art.

          Paintings from Different Museums

          As an important artist in the 20th century, Song Wenzhi made important contribution for Chinese Mountain-and-Water painting, although the number of his paintings is not large, most of them are classics in art history. His important paintings are collected in Song Wenzhi Art Museum (Taicang), Jiangsu Province Fine Art Academy and Jiangsu Art Museum etc. some small paintings were left to Song’s Children. After Mr.Song passed away, Song’s children collected from different places though 10 years and got about one hundred and fifty paintings, these paintings were painted in different periods and in different kinds, their collection can not be replaced by other art institute or individual. The exhibition is based on the Mr.Song’s children’s collection, after selected and organization the exhibition possess high art and academic value. Song had made exhibitions twice in Beijing, this is his first retrospective exhibition in Beijing, we believe that audience will appreciate Song’s art though his paintings of South China scenery.

          Inspiration for Current Art Circle

          After 2005 Beijing Fine Art Academy organized publication and exhibition of 20th century Chinese Artists, about twenty artists are presented though the 20 years and brought important influence both in art circle and society. In earlier years, we emphasize on north artists, in recent year we try to broke the barrier, Song Wenzhi’s Exhibition is another important artist from south China after Zhu Qizhan, we will also display the artist from northwest of China---like SiLu’s sketch painting exhibition which will be opened in second half this year.

          These activities not only retrospect the history, in contrary though the practice of 20th century’s art masters to find the law in art creation and artist’s development and make inspiration for current art circle.
