“Eight attractions of Guangzhou in all ages” and “Metropolisof South”

     Directed by propaganda department of Guangzhou, and organized by Museum of Beijing Fine Art Academy, Guangzhou Literature and Art League, Guangzhou Art Museum, and Guangzhou artists association, Charms of the city——Exhibition of “Eight attractions of Guangzhou in all ages” and “Metropolisof South” will be open at 20th December, 2015 in Museum of Beijing Fine Art Academy.
 
     Guangzhou was built in 214 B.C., as the center of political, economy and culture in the Southern area since ancient times. As a key starter of maritime silk road, Guangzhou serves as an important national transportation hub and trading port. One of the five National Central Cities, it holds sub-provincial administrative status.
 
 
      In order to achieve the goal of construct Guangzhou as National Center City, people in Guangzhou are relying on the unique Guangzhou Lingnan culture and geographical resources to build an international trade center and cultural city in the world. It is under the background of development of the city, in the past two years, Guangzhou Artists Association has been organized a lot of programs on local natural and humanity resources,  “Eight attractions of Guangzhou in all ages” and “Metropolisof South”  are two extraordinary examples . 
 
      Guangzhou has a long history of civilization, and has countless highlights of urban character and humanities anecdotes, “Eight attractions of Guangzhou in all ages” must be one of the most ones. According to the historic records, the conception of “Eight attractions of Guangzhou” was first raised in Song Dynasty, and as time passes by, it is still known to the public. It is no doubt that “Eight attractions of Guangzhou” is the most concise summarization of natural and humanity scenery of Guangzhou in different times. 
 
      In 2014, the Guangzhou artists association has invited hundreds of experts in painting, calligraphy and seal cutting to create a series Nagamakiof “Eight attractions of Guangzhou in all ages”. This series was divided into nine parts of Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing, late Qing Dynasty, and the year of 1963, 1986, 2002 and 2011. Each part includes eight sceneries which bearing the heavy historic development and unique charm, as well as the continuous and deep feeling of people towards Guangzhou.
 
      As the extension of “Eight attractions of Guangzhou in all ages”, in this March, the Guangzhou Artists Association planed the creation program of “Metropolisof South”  with the same form and same group of the elites in Guangzhou art circle. What different is that “Metropolisof South” took a unique angle of  creation conception. Guangzhou has been a business city from ancient times, theconsistent business vein and flourish business culture has been the solid base of Guangzhou. Therefore, the creation of “Metropolisof South” was focus on the business culture of Guangzhou.
 
      20 artists took half of the year to finish the creation which depict the history of a millennium，including 2300 figures, 600 ships and 30 historical sites and cultural views. The seemingly easy statistics of the Nagamaki actually is of great significants. 
 
      “Eight attractions of Guangzhou in all ages” has been on a tour exhibition in Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Tianjin, and Macao,  and “Metropolisof South”has just finish its debut in Guangzhou. So it will be the first time that these two are exhibited at the same time. With these two Nagamakis exhibiting together, the audiences can fully enjoy the historical scene, typical cultural landmark, and vivid folk customs. 
 
     There is a saying in the western world that “All history is contemporary history”. We can also paraphrase it as “any depiction of the history is the presentation of contemporary spirit”. The humanity and historic program of “Eight attractions of Guangzhou in all ages” and “Metropolisof South” is the model of depicting, cultivating and broadcasting the cultural image of Guangzhou, and is enough to be the media for people from all over the world to know and find Guangzhou.
 
     The exhibition will be open until 1 p.m. 15th December, 2015.
