“Qi Jia Dawa Art Touring Exhibition·Beijing” is co-hosted by Chinese Artists Association, Culture Sports and Tourism Administration of Shenzhen, and co-organized by Art Museum of Beijing Fine Art Academy, Shenzhen Guan Shanyue Art Museum, and assisted by Shenzhen Art Academy. This exhibition will open in 10 am of June 9, 2015 on the first floor of Art Museum of Beijing Fine Art Academy, and exhibit from June 6 to 22 in Art Museum of Beijing Fine Art Academy. This exhibition is a periodic summary of the art creation of Qi Jia Dawa, and will show nearly one hundred representative print works created in 50 years. From the perspective of time, the works showed in this exhibition cover the representative works in every period of Qi Jia Dawa’s creation.
 
Qi Jia Dawa succeeds the style of Chinese new wood-cut, and creates the spirit of Chinese contemporary print art. He is a old Tibetan painter who contributes to print art in China greatly. He is born in Ganzi of Sichuan province in 1946, he become orphan in childhood because the death of his parents. Fortunately, he was adopted by the people's government and went to primary school. He was sent to the Sichuan Fine Art Institute national class in 1959, and distributed to the Chinese Artists Association Sichuan branch to engage in print creation after graduated in 1964. Then he takes up the post of secretary general of Sichuan Province Artists Association, executive vice president, deputy director of the Sichuan Art Museum, director of Chinese Artists Association, and also is a member of Print Art Committee of Chinese Artists Association, his arrival greatly promoted the development of Shenzhen engraving art. Qi Jia Dawa engaged in artistic creation for 50 years, his works participated in domestic and international exhibitions for many times and won many awards. Many of his representative works, such as Open A Way, The Man Planting Trees, Golden Autumn, and other works have all become important works in the development of Chinese modern print. The Man Planting Trees won the “Gold prize of Art Institute of Japan and China” in Ten Countries’ Modern Print Exhibition which hosted by Tokyo, Japan in 1987.
 
The academic significance of the research of Qi Jia Dawa mainly includes several aspects:
 
1、Qi Jia Dawa is a important respect of print artists who take what our forebears have left usbut as a departure for new inventions. His contributions to the development of Chinese prints are various. After the founding of the nation, especially after the reform and opening up of China, Chinese print is faced with the development and transformation of many directions. The art experiences and art opinions of Qi Jia Dawa can reflect the overall trend of the Chinese prints in this historical period to some extent.
 
2、As the older generation of artists, Qi Jia Dawa comes from Tibetan areas, and has direct experience of the peaceful liberation of Tibet and the art construction of new China. So he is a typical case of the research of the art development of new China under the background at that time from the perspective of sociology. The deep research on his art experience is of great significance for the research of Chinese art in twentieth Century.
 
3、From the new time, the contemporary art development mode which composed by art movement and art event also changes the writing way of art history, the art movement, artistic thought and art events have instead individual artists to become the subject of art history writing. As the director of Sichuan Artists Association, Print Artist Association, Shenzhen Art Academy, Qi Jia Dawa has poured a lot of energy in the organization of print activities, especially makes great contributions to the development of Sichuan print school.
 
4、Qi Jia Dawa is one of the important representative painters of black and white woodcut art. He places social emotion, evaluation, and critical opinions in the depiction of the characters, and promotes the black-and-white woodcut of Sichuan school of print towards maturity.
 
5、Qi Jia Dawa is one of the elderly artists appeared in Shenzhen who made outstanding contributions to the development of art in Shenzhen since the reform and opening up of China. Through the researches of the elderly artists in Shenzhen, we can investigate the development status of Shenzhen in 30 years. It not only plays an important role in the research of Shenzhen art, but also plays a positive role in promoting the establishment of influence power of the academic research of Shenzhen art in whole country.
 
2004 is the 50 anniversary of Qi Jia Dawa’s first work Open A Way, and he has also engaged in art career for 50 years. Funded by the special fund of Shenzhen publicity and cultural projects, Guan Shanyue Art Museum organizes exhibition, academic symposium, academic publication series activities, and makes academic research of Qi Jia Dawa by placing him in the overall frame of the twentieth century Chinese art research.
 
After the exhibition held in Shenzhen, the academic community has positive responses. In 2015, the works of Qi Jia Dawa are invited to be exhibited in some important art galleries across the country. We hope to send a huge visual feast for local audiences.
