In October 31, 2014, “Art Reform In Ninety-nine—Wang Lanruo Personal Exhibition” which organized by Chinese Artists Association and Beijing Fine Art Academy will be opened in Art Museum of Beijing Fine Art Academy. We will also held a symposium to discuss the topic of “the changing and unchanging of Chinese art”.

 

 

      Wang Lanruo was born in 1911, he is 104 years old now, and it is a miracle the he is still able to create art works. The exhibition puts the "Art Reform in Ninety-nine" of Mr. Wang Lanruo as the center, and shows the artistic history of him in the aspects of making friends, painting from life, and art reform through hundreds of his works.

 

 

      This exhibition is based on the personal case of Wang Lanruo, and it is divided into three parts which named “Learning and inheritance”, “Painting from life”, “Art Reform in Ninety-nine”. “Learning and inheritance” includes contents of two aspects: the art nourish when Mr. Wang went to Lingdong and Shanghai, and the succession of the art essence of his posterity. This unit is mainly exhibited the works which created when Mr Wang Lanruo is learning, and the works modeled after the antique. 

 

 

      The unit named “Painting from life” not only focuses on the characteristic of painting from life in his works, but also reflects no matter what difficult he faces with, he still has strong vitality. The works exhibited in the exhibition include painting from life and wonderful sketch manuscripts. These content-rich manuscripts which created in different periods, carry too much storys and Mr. Wang Lanruo’s persistent pursuit of art.

 

 

      Ninety-nine is a auspicious number in China. In the winter of 2008, Wang Lanruo is in his nearly a hundred years old. He accidentally tumbled and damaged his brain,so he was very weak at that time, the ability of memory and language expression are greatly declined. When he feel slightly good, he began to creating paintings which have new characters. These new characters seemed to be acquired "occasionally", but when we reviewed the whole artistic life Mr. Wang Lanruo had experienced, we may understand the “art reform in ninety-nine” is not came out of nowhere. The learning experiences from Lingdong to Haishang laid a good foundation for Wang Lanruo, and teaching is a process of reflection, so "art reform in ninety-nine" is the achievement of long-term accumulation and practice. As Lang Shaojun said:“Chinese painting is complicated, and its skills are hard to master, persistent effort, noble character, and comprehensive knowledge are all very significant. Chinese painting is a kind of internal transcendence art. It could be said that the self transcendence in Wang Lanruo’s art is come from both self-cultivation and his insight.”

 

 

      “Art Reform In Ninety-nine——Wang Lanruo Personal Exhibition” is one of the most thought-provoking and memorable exhibitions held by Art Museum of Beijing Fine Art Academy in the autumn. 

 

 

       This exhibition sort and display the art of Mr. Wang Lanruo, and it is a case which arouses our attention to rethink the regulation of the development of Chinese art.
