Early Spring in Beijing At the end of 2011, Beijing Fine Art Academy designed Early Spring in Beijing---Selected Bird-and-Flower Paintings Exhibition, the exhibition will add culture landscape for capital this winter, the exhibition will be opened on 11th Jan.2012 at Beijing Fine Art Academy, and will last to 13th Feb. As an important part of Series Beijing Fine Art Academy’s Collection Exhibition, this time we brought about seventy paintings from more than twenty Beijing artists’, the exhibition will display Beijing areas bird-and-flower painting’s development in last century.

        1920s to 1930s is an important period in Beijing painting’s development, with the foundation of Chinese Art Study Association and Hu Association, a lot of artists lived and painted in Beijing. Beijing painting style’s formation and prosperous has it deep social background, Beijing as the capital in Ming and Qing dynasty formed its own history and culture in the past hundred years. In Ming Guo times, Gu Wu Cheng Lie Suo (Antiques Display Office) and The Palace Museum opened to the public, people can see paintings which were collected by royal family which enlarged people’s traditional knowledge, this also make convenience for artists’ study of traditional painting’s essence. Meanwhile, western culture’s broadcasting also brought new painting skills for Beijing’s artists, especially western realistically way of observing nature bring influence for traditional bird-and-flower-painting. Because of these reasons, Beijing’s bird-and-flower paintings became more and more prosperous.

         Artists included in the exhibition not only these famous like Chen Shizeng (陈师曾)， Qi Baishi (齐白石)，Yu Fei’an (于非闇) but also some artists maybe audience do not familiar, like Jin Chen (金诚)，Chen Banding (陈半丁) etc. Some artists who has been forgotten also can be find in the exhibion, like Wang Mengbai(王梦白)who is good at painting animal， Cao Kehong(曹克黌)who is good at painting cat and Zhang Qiyi(张其翼) who is good at fine brush painting. Paintings of art group named Pine Tree Painting Association with members of Fu Xuezhai(溥雪斋), Pu Yizhai(溥毅斋) and Pu Zuo (溥佐) etc. will be displayed at the exhibition, these members are mainly Qing royal posterity, because of their family background they studied Chinese traditional poem and painting since very young, the Pine Tree Painting Association was established in 1925 by Pu Xinyu (溥心畬) and Pu Yizhai (溥毅斋). These artists learn painting though humbly coping old master’s paintings, many of them good at painting horses.

          Though Early Spring in Beijing---Selected Bird-and-Flower Paintings Exhibition, Beijing Fine Art Academy will display these excellent paintings for audience; we believe it will also benefit Chinese painting’s study and contemporary Chinese painting’s broadcasting and development. Though Series Beijing Fine Art Academy’s Collection Exhibition, we will continue study 20th century paintings and exhibit our study achievements for audience.
