Same historical background and learning experience have been the common soil for these seven artists. All of them were born in the 1950s and 60s; followed their passion of oil painting, they have entered PLA Academy of Arts where is the only academy that offers oil painting course during that time, therefore they have gathered soldier’s true colours on the way of pursuit of art. Yet, their learning process has exactly experienced the major transform period of the open-minded New China, from the Culture Revolution to the Reform and Opening-up in 1980s. The rigorous academy education has taken shape of the choice and understanding of their artistic direction during this period; “Representation” has become the same pursuit for all of them. After the 85 New Wave, Chinese art has entered a spring-up period with various art forms emerged, flourish and even chaos in some way. However, they were consistent to their painting language, exploring within the framework of representational oil painting. Thirty years’ pursuit with fate and life experiences, “Nature, Colour” is the most honest and precise summary for these seven artists.
