Where brush meets ink, the picturesque scenery comes to life. The Scenic Splendor of Western Beijing —"Three Hills and Five Gardens" Thematic Exhibition, sponsored by a 2025 grant from the Beijing Culture and Arts Fund and hosted by the Beijing Fine Art Academy, will open on 1,2/F of the Academy's Art Museum on May 29, 2026. We warmly invite you to experience the poetic grandeur of western Beijing through the paintings.
Against the backdrop of Beijing's coordinated efforts to advance the three cultural belts, showcase its identity as a national cultural center, and burnish its golden cultural brand, the Beijing Fine Art Academy has rolled out a series of creation and exhibition events. The "Three Hills and Five Gardens" — a glittering historic icon of Beijing and a crown jewel of the Western Hills-Yongding River Cultural Belt — embodies the cultural heritage and natural elegance of the millennial capital. The exhibition, featuring a key chapter in the Academy’s "Artists Paint Beijing" series, presents the finest works by its expert artists. With traditional brushwork as the backbone and a contemporary vision as the soul, the exhibits deeply capture the cultural essence of western Beijing.
The artists immersed themselves in the heart of the region, exploring the Jade Spring Hill, the Summer Palace, the Fragrance Hill, and the Longevity Temple. Through sketching, observation, and dedicated creation, they have captured every detail on paper: the artfully scattered pavilions and terraces of the imperial gardens, the verdant paths through the hills, and the ancient-meets-modern spirit of western Beijing. Their works blend the expressive vitality of traditional freehand brushwork with the fresh vision of contemporary aesthetics. They not only recreate the timeless elegance of the historic gardens but also sketch a new portrait of the region today — offering a visual feast with cultural depth and artistic warmth to visitors.
This exhibition is a 2025 grantee of the Beijing Culture and Arts Fund, a public fund initiated by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism. The Fund focuses on stage arts, cultural exchange, and artistic training. It welcomes applications openly, ensures public supervision throughout the whole process, and shares the achievements with the public. Through maximizing public engagement in cultural development, it has built an open, fair, and transparent art funding system, and fully showcased Beijing's leading role as a national cultural center.
