Wang Youshi(Late)

 Wang Youshi entered into hand-drawing department of Beijing Teacher's College (named Beijing Normal University now) in 1914. He followed Sun Yat-sen to participate in Revolutionary Alliance and Kuomintang. After Kuomintang betrayed the revolution, he quitted angrily. Then he worked for resisting against Japanese aggression, and his home was the party's underground rendezvous. During the War of Liberation, he participated in organizing "People's Education Alliance" under the leadership of the party. For the peaceful liberation of Peking, he involved in instigating Hou Jingru who was the former garrison commander of Peking. In 1956,he participated in Beijing Painting Academy construction, and then became the member of party and committee of Beijing Painting Academy.      Wang Youshi was an artist worked for revolution. Before the liberation, he lived by teaching and selling pictures. He had held numerous personal exhibitions. He was the star pupil of Chen Shizeng who influenced him greatly in thoughts and arts. In 1930s and 1940s, simulation was popular in the circle of Beijing arts, he strongly advocated painting from nature. He depicted physical character through "the depiction of flowers and birds". He supported to combine calligraphy into art, with a simple painting style. His calligraphy emphasized stone rubbings, famous for cursive style. He was good at Tieshu, plum, willow painting. His Plum series, painted in his later years, had huge structure and extraordinary momentum, integrating plum's natural features and cultural features into their high-spirited, stout, blooming painting imagery, which indicated the resonance of this old painter's mind, personality and soul.
