Xia Feng(Late)

  Xia Feng, born in Yuanyang County of Henan Province, entered into Henan Arts School in 1930 and admitted Hangzhou National Art College after graduation and then he pursued further studies in Peking Arts Academy. In 1938, he entered into wood carve class in Lu Xun Arts Academy in Yan'an, and served as reasearcher in the Department of Fine Art Research in Lu Xun Arts Academy In 1939, he won the title of "Northwest Model Youth", awarded medals by Zhu De. In 1946, he taught at The North China Union University and in 1947, served as director of Fine Arts Department of Northeast Lu Xun Fine Arts Institute and participated in the organization of Lu Xun Fine Arts Academy. After liberation, he used to work in People's Fine Arts Publishing House and Beijing Fine Art Academy . Xia Feng was one of the representatives of Yan'an print. He multi-dimensionally described the new life and mental outlook of Chinese working class people in many themes, reflecting China's social, cultural, and historic changes with artistic image. As a soldier, he worked together with liberated areas artists to create new graphic art full of rich national spirit and national style under their self-conscious sense of history, opening a new chapter in the history of Chinese painting. He learned from traditional folk arts and explored innovations in Chinese painting, gradually formed his refreshing, vibrant and vivid style. His flowers painting added a new aesthetic form in the field of painting.
