In 1920, joined Chinese Painting Academy, apprenticed to Jin Cheng, specialized in landscape; in 1925, became researcher of Chinese Painting Academy; 1927, founded Lake Society with Jin Yinhu, Hu Peiheng and so on, edited < Monthly Lake Society >， worked at Beiping Arts Academy; Former Commissary, Beijing Chinese Painting Academy; Commissary, Art Committee, Chinese Painting Academy; he was president of Commissary, New Chinese Painting Research Society and Chinese Painting Learning Class of Imperial College. Visited Indonesia, held personal exhibition after came back to motherland. Hui Xiaotong specialized in landscape, compositions quite ingenious, ancient trees and rocks in his works were powerful and magnificent. Kept seeking for a new developed era of landscape painting he also made a valuable exploration, created with Gu Yizhou, Zhou Liang, Tao Yi-qing, He Jing-han, Song Quan-sen on giant scroll < The Capital Spring >,described the new look from Tong county to Shi Jing-shan, and Beijing Guan Ting Reservoir, combined ancient techniques with modern skills, made perfect integration between the sources and hearts, created a new era of painting style.
