Qin Zhongwen (1896 - 1974) 　　He was a well-known landscape painter and born in Hebei Zunhua. His original name is Qin Yu-rong, nickname is Zhongwen and pseudonym is Qin Yu. In 1915, he studied inThe Law Department of Peking University. In 1918, he participated in the study of painting in Peking University hosted by Tsai Yuan-pei, and learned from He Lvzhi, Chen Shizeng, Tang Dingzhi. He specialized in landscape and participated in Chinese Painting Research Association sponsored by Jincheng There he was able to copy the ancient book, thus laid a solid traditional foundation. In 1930s and 1940s, he taught in College of the Arts of Peking University, Jinghua Arts Academy and the National College of Art, at the same time, he did history research. In 1934, he finished "History of Chinese Painting Theories." After 1949, he worked as painter and researcher of Beijing Painting Academy. 　　At the beginning, Qin Zhongwen learned landscapes from many artists in late Qing. Then he closed to the early Qing Dynasty artists, such as Gong Xian, Cha Shibiao, which made him have varied techniques and style. His early works presented the aforementioned two kinds of physical appearance. In the Chinese Painting Research Association, he further studed 4 Wangs, Wu, Yun, and improved his original capacity. Under the gudience of Jincheng, Zhang Hao, he traced to Song, Yuan Dynasty, and gradually formed vigorous, fresh personal style. in 1940s, he had great influence on the northern landscape painting circle. In 1947, Chinese painting department of Peking Arts University promoted sketch teaching and Qin Zhongwen took the lead in opposition to sketch as the basis of Chinese painting, produced the so-called "three professors incident", and was dismissed. From1950s, Qin Zhongwen began to observe life deeply and visited Yunnan, Sichuan, Shanxi and Beijing suburb. His photographs changed from the mountain and river panoramic layout to the style of heavier partial characterization. He painted with ink and added new ideas into the traditional style. In his later years, he also painted bamboo, full of unique charm.
