Wang Xuetao(Late)

 Wang Xuetao was a well-known flowers painter, His original name is Tingjun, style name is Xiaofeng, nickname is Chiyuan, howntown is Chen'an County of Hebei province. He was good at Xieyi (freehand brushwork in traditional Chinese painting , characterized by vivid expression and bold outline). In 1918, he entered into drawing hand department of Baoding Teacher's College. After graduation in 1921, he served as a picture teacher of Dingzhou Teachers School, and in the next year, he entered into western painting department of the State Beijing Arts School and also studied Chinese painting. in 1924 he became a student of Qi Baishi who highly praised his talent and renamed him Xue-tao. In 1926, he graduated from Beijing Arts School and stayed there to teach, at the same time, he was a teacher of Jinghua Arts Academy and Peking Arts Academy. In 1930s, he learned flower painting from Wang Mengbai, In 1950s, he participated in "New Chinese Painting Research Association" and began to do bird and flower painting research. He was the director of Chinese Artists Association, the president of Beijing Fine Art Academy, vice chairman of Beijing Artists Association, the chairman of Beijing Flower And Birds Painting Association, the member of Beijing Municipal Standing Committee of CPPCC, etc. Wang Xuetao used the Western sketch method while mainly studying in tradition. He could paint veriegated flowers, fruits, vegetables and poultry His flowers and birds paintings had accurate structure and vivid image, out of monotonous simulation. He sketched by ink simultaneously put appropriate emphasis on color brightness. He combined ink and color, improved color brightness, thus depicting vital nature and beautiful flowers. His peony paintings were particularly popular. His smart layout and changable calligraphy increased delicateness and richness of his works.
