Yu Feian(Late)

   Yu Feian is the famous non-Chinese Painting painter and calligrapher. His original name is Yuzhao, style name is Feichang and nickname is Xianren, nationality is Manchu, he was born in Beijing. He read in private schools in his childhood and entered into Manchuria and Mongolia high schools in 1908. He studied in Beijing Normal School in 1912 and in the next year, taught in Beijing Second Primary School, at the same time, he learned painting with a folk artist named Wang. Then he worked for "Beijing Morning Post" art magazine and was a well-known journalist in northern China. In 1930s, he served as mentor of the National Palace Museum Painting Research Exhibition Hall, and also taught at the Beijing Normal School, Jinghua Arts Academy, The North University, Peking Arts College. Since 1949, he served as vice president of Beijing Chinese Painting Research Association, researcher of the National Fine Arts Institute of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, executive director of Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles Committee, vice president of Beijing Fine Art Academy and so on. He published "Research For Chinese Painting Color," " Pigeon in Dumen" " Chrysanthemum Memories in Dumen " , etc. Under the influence of the family and the surrounding environment, he liked paintings, calligraphy, poetry, flowers and grass, fishing, birds feeding. After forty years old, he concentrated on flowers and birds painting. In 1936, he held art exhibition for the first time in Zhongshan Park, which cause an uproar in arts circle. He based on life art and injected new vitality, in particular, his painting and observation for birds and flowers and absorption of the folk art, embroidery, tapestry. His flowers and birds paintings had strong lines and heavy colors without losing calm. Elegant but not tend to be flirtatious, lively, decorative and interesting, these works had a great impact on contemporary meticulous flower painting.
